Sheridan the War Criminal

Clifford Dowdey, in his book The History of the Confederacy 1832-1865  had some commentary about the subject of this article, Philip H. Sheridan and it was not particularly complementary. Mr. Dowdey noted of Sheridan that he “…was an undersized man (five feet three) with an oversized head, in all ways…But Grant perceived in the man a quality he wanted in his all-out, no-holds-barred war of total conquest. The Sheridans, Milroys, and Hunters had a different kind of arrogance from the neo-princelings of the Cotton South. They had the arrogance of unrestrained might. Without regard for rights–of belligerants or fellow citizens or even of the so-called ‘human rights,’ let alone of the Union–these bully boys had a lust for physical violence and wanton destruction.”

In other words, Sheridan and Sherman and others of their ilk were going to wage total, unrestrained war on the South, both on civilians as well as soldiers, not because it was right, but because they could do it and get away with it. He noted all this on page 321 of the above mentioned book.

He also wrote another book, somewhat in the same vein, called Lee’s Last Campaign  which was the story of Lee’s 1864 campaign against Grant. Both were excellent books and I recommend them if they are still available. In this book he also commented about Sheridan. On page 219 he said:: “Only recently promoted from command of an infantry division, Sheridan saw in his weaker opponent (Stuart) the opportunity both for advancement and for the expression of his pugnacious assertiveness. Of him it could never be said, ‘It’s how the game is played that counts.’ Winning was everything to him; he wanted to beat people, to dominate by will or authority or physical force. A bully-boy with the weapons and sanction of power behind him, he personally hated Southerners of a privileged background.” He probably hated most other Southerners too.

During the Indian Wars of the late 1860s and 1870s he commented that “the only good Indian is a dead Indian.” So he must have hated the Indians too, and he certainly could not claim they were privileged Southerners. So Sheridan was not only jealous, but he was a bully in the bargain. So let’s don’t “be nice” to him and try to pass over these attributes of his. He was what he was, unattractive as it was. The man got his kicks pushing people who could not always fight back around.

Awhile back I came across an article by James Bovard that was published on February 2, 2015 on http://www.militaryhistory.com called Sheridan’s Scorched Earth Campaign–The Union Army’s Forgotten War Crime. Mr. Bovard observed, of the War of Northern Aggression that “While popular historians have recently canonized the war as a veritable holy crusade to free the slaves, in reality civilians were intentionally targeted and brutalized, particularly in the final year of the conflict. The most dramatic forgotten atrocity of the Civil War occurred a little more than 150 years ago when Union General Philip Sheridan laid waste to a hundred mile swath of the Shenandoah Valley leaving vast numbers of women and children at risk of starvation. Surprisingly, this scorched earth campaign has been largely forgotten, foreshadowing how subsequent brutal military operations would also vanish into the Memory Hole…Grant ordered Sheridan to ‘do all the damage to railroads and crops you can…if the war is to last another year, we want the Shenandoah Valley to remain a barren waste.’ Sheridan set to the task with vehemence, declaring that ‘the people must be left nothing but their eyes to weep with over the war’ and promised that, when he was finished, the valley, ‘from Winchester to Staunton will have little in it for man or beast’.” To put it bluntly, he planned on starving out the civilian population, as the war effort left almost no one else there except for whatever armies came through.

And because those civilians lived in a state that had legitimately seceded from the glorious Union “Sheridan acted as if they had automatically forfeited their property, if not their very lives.” To be fair, not all the Union soldiers were totally on board with what went on. Bovard noted that “An Ohio major wrote in his diary that the burning ‘does not seem real soldierly work. We ought to enlist a force of scoundrels for such work.’…After one of Sheridan’s favourite aides was shot by Confederate soldiers, the general ordered his troops to burn all houses within a five mile radius. After many outlying dwellings had been torched, the small town at the center–Dayton– was spared only after one Federal officer outright disobeyed Sheridan’s order.”

So it seems that, after three years of a war that the Union had not been able to win the Lincoln administration finally decided to adopt the principle of total war to “scourge the South into submission.” And about the same time, Sherida’s fellow bully-boy, Sherman, was spouting about “repopulating Georgia, but only after a “certain class of people–men, women and children” were killed or banishet. No war crimes to see here, folks, just move along–and make sure you buy all those books by Northern “historians” that tell you the war was all about slavery.

Bovard noted that the “carnage inflicted by Sheridan, Sherman, and other Northern commanders made the South’s post-war recovery far slower and multiplied the misery of both white and black survivors.”

Bovard ended his article with a warning for us today. He said: “Since 1864, no prudent American should have expected this nation’s wars to have happy or uplifting endings. Unfortunately, as long as the spotlight is kept off atrocities, most citizens will continue to underestimate the odds that wars will spawn debacles and injustices that return to haunt us.”

And as for wars subsequent to the War of Northern Aggression, with their atrocities being pushed down the Memory Hole, I would recommend  the Kennedy Brothers recent book Yankee Empire  published only last year by Shotwell Publishing in Columbia, South Carolina.

You have to wonder, with Sheridan’s utter disregard for private property, if he had any of those Forty-Eighter generals under his command that influenced his decision to torch everything in sight in the Shenandoah Valley. The war crimes against Southern civilians have never been treated to any great amount of attention. A couple excellent books have been written about them but they have never received any amount of official attention. We hear all this blather about reparations for slavery when all the slaves have been dead for almost a hundred years. What about reparations for Southern folks who had their property destroyed by the likes of Sheridan and Sherman and whose ancestors, many of them, faced starvation and privation because the Union armies destroyed literally everything they had?

At the risk of sounding negative–don’t hold your breath waiting for any of this to ever be dealt with.

Shadow Banning

Wikipedia had some interesting commentary on this subject on their site that I thought was worth noting. I won’t go into all of it but just a little so folks that don’t know can see what it is.

The Wikipedia article noted: “Shadow banning…is the act of blocking or partially blocking a user or their content from an online community such that it will not be readily apparent to the user that they have been banned. By making a user’s contributions  invisible or less prominent to other members of the service, the hope may be that in the absence  of reactions to their comments, the problematic or otherwise out-of-favor user will become bored or frustrated and leave the site.”

In other words, they ban, or almost ban, your material in such a way that you will hardly notice it has been done. They do this by making your material, your articles, comments, or whatever you post “less prominent” to those who have been used to seeing it out there on a regular basis.

I have several friends that follow the material I post on my blog spots. Awhile back, (and I may have mentioned this once) one  sent me an email telling me I had been shadow banned. At the time, I had not even thought of such a thing. Naïve of me, I know, given the nature of those people that I usually write about. I occasionally used to get hate mail from some who disagreed with my perspectives, but hadn’t seen any of that in quite awhile and so did not have this kind of thing in my mind.

Anyway, my friend did some of the research I had not even thought about and explained to me how he figured it out. He put the names of my blogs up on a search engine (maybe more than one) and explained to me that, in most cases, all he could find in relation to my blog articles on most of them was one direct entry into my sites and every other entry was from an article of mine posted on someone else’s sites, so that if you were looking for one of my articles you could only find it on somebody else’s site, not directly on mine. This cuts traffic to my site down considerably. Though most of the  people that use my articles do list my blogs as their source, if you read the entire article on their site then you have no need to click onto my site.

Please understand, I am not complaining about the good folks that post my articles on their sites. The vast majority of them do that to help me get the word out and, for that, I am grateful to them

There was a time when my articles were listed, both from my own sites and others combined, on as many as a dozen pages on search engines. Those days are gone. Now you are fortunate if you can find listings on three pages, so something has happened.

The other night I typed out the blog address for one of my blogs on a search engine and there was not even one direct listing for my site. Everything was via someone else’s site. The same day I got a notice from a friend of mine in New England telling me that when he tried to click onto my site for the latest article I had sent him, he got a notice telling him my site was “not safe” and so he was hesitant to forward my article, as he usually does, to others.

I have received that same type of warning about a handful of sites I usually check out over the past few years. I went into those sites anyway and kept going back into them and eventually those warnings ceased. There was nothing “wrong” with any of those sites except that they tended to comment in areas that were  politically incorrect and so someone was attempting to warn people away from those sites lest they get to read and digest information the Establishment would rather they not see.

“Big Brother” is always watching. All the blather about internet security and “privacy” for all is a joke! We are all watched, checked on, monitored, and if we continue to post stuff someone doesn’t approve of, well, they work to do something about that. I have now talked to a dozen other people that have had this or similar problems with what they send out and receive.

I have a friend in the Southern Heritage Movement who used to include a little picture of a Confederate Battle Flag on each email he sent out. All of a sudden, one day, his emails started bouncing back to him as “undeliverable.” He couldn’t figure out what the problem was–until he started to connect the dots and realized what it was. So he took the little Confederate Flag off the emails he was sending out and, guess what–all of a sudden his emails started getting through again. What a coincidence! So please don’t insult me by telling me no one is watching what we do. They watch everything we do. Everything we send out or receive is watched by somebody.

I have had similar experiences, where I have used the word Secession in the title of an article and when I would go to send it out the email would not work and the article would go nowhere. However when I changed the word secession to something a little less obvious the articles would, somehow, manage to get mailed. You can’t make this stuff up–you learn by experiencing it.

What has escaped me for awhile is why anyone would want to bother trying to blunt what little influence I might have. I can see them going after InfoWars or Drudge or Zero Hedge or some of those other sites that reach millions most every day. Those kinds of sites reach more people in one day than I will in the next ten years! Why are they worried about me or others like me that will never have huge audiences?

The conclusion I have come to is that the Deep State, the Establishment, Big Brother, or whatever you want to call this Leviathan, is afraid of people finding out the truth. The real truth scares them because if it ever got to enough people who could really grasp it, their positions of power and control would be in severe jeopardy and so  they have to attempt to shut down any and all attempts to tell people what really goes on. Even really small efforts like those of myself and others that I know personally!

The Wikipedia article noted their attempts to drive “problematic” and “out-of-favor” users toward boredom and frustration so they would just hang it up and quit. That may work for some, but not all. In the final analysis, it is the Lord that directs people to our sites and He will direct to our sites those He wants to see what we have to say, be they many or few. That’s up to Him. Jesus started out with 12 disciples and look what, in His Father’s providence, He accomplished. None of us will ever do what Jesus did but I think the Lord has certain people out there that He wants each of us to reach and if we remain faithful He will see to it that we are able to  do that–and Big Brother won’t be able to do anything about it–and I think he realizes that and it frustrates him no end.

Celebrating Lenin’s Birthday

The kids in our public schools in this town, and probably most others as well, had the day off from school today. Whether they realized it or not, they were celebrating the birth of Vladimir Lenin, the Communist butcher of the Soviet Union.

Over the years, Lenin’s birth was never celebrated here until they started celebrating  it on April 22, 1970, which was the hundredth anniversary of his birth. Since that date it has been celebrated every year in this country.

Although they don’t often mention his name during these celebrations, they do try to promote ideas that would have warmed the cockles of his heart–ideas such as government control of the environment. Lenin would have just loved the “Green New Deal” that is presently being touted by all the up and coming socialists in what passes for our Congress today. The use of fossil fuels being outlawed, the use of personal automobiles being curtailed because of that. all these ideas of “free stuff” for everyone–Lenin would have been all in favor of  all this because, in the end, it all bespeaks of government control over everything and that was Lenin’s fondest dream.

Government control of the means of  production, government control over your ability to travel, government control over your child’s education–and therefore government control over what your kids are taught for history or about their culture and heritage. I can see Lenin simply drooling in anticipation over all this–his fondest dream.

He didn’t live long enough to see all that, poor baby, but in our day his erstwhile disciples are laboring 28 hours a day (overtime) to make sure all this gets brought about in his memory.

And, as for the celebration of his birthday on every April 22nd, well, they still don’t mention his name to all those “useful idiots” they have conned into celebrating his birthday.  It’s almost like they are ashamed, or afraid, to let people know what they are really celebrating, because if they really knew, some of them might not celebrate it at all–so they don’t tell them what this day is really all about. Instead they cover that information up by calling  this day Earth Day. That should be enough to fool the uninitiated and the naïve–and usually it is!

How Do I Know???

How do I know that as Jesus the Christ says in Scripture “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me.” is true? Well, for one thing, the Holy Scripture is the inspired word of God. That’s the main way. But the fact that points to His authority and divinity is that the world hates Him and what He and His followers stand for. And it isn’t just the totally secular world that hates Him. It is the religious world as well.

The secularists and the Muslims hate each other, but they will work together for anything that denigrates Jesus. The Communists and the Fascists supposedly hate each other (not really at the leadership levels) but everywhere else, but both hate Jesus.

Even apostate Christians hate Jesus and they will willingly work with many other anti-Christ groups and movements that attempt to remove Jesus from His throne, a throne some of them would love to occupy along with their father, the “father of lies.” It’s interesting how many of these groups are really evolutionist in their thinking. The thought that God created this world in six days just irks all manner of humanists, communists, socialists and others absolutely to death. They can’t handle that anymore than they can handle Saint Hillary having lost the last presidential election and so they have to try to do something, anything, to overrule that fact.

They have to try to destroy western civilization because with Europe as Christendom that is something hateful in their minds and that needs to go, to be replaced with something, whatever, that is steeped in paganism.

The same holds true in this country with the continuing war on anything Southern.  Flags with Christian symbols on them and statues erected to commemorate good men, many of whom were Christian men, need to be pulled down and destroyed because they are supposedly “racist.” You’d think that no one but Christians had ever been “racist” if you listened to the so-called news media. Whatever racism exists in most anti-Christian groups is totally overlooked because most of the media people hate Jesus every bit as much as the frothing-at-the-mouth leftists.

So Christianity has to go and be replaced with some form of socialism or, just as bad, “compassionate conservatism.” And the Christian heritage of the South has to be replaced with some sort of leftist ideology, some variation of compassionate communism that nurtures and care for everyone. You’ve heard all this drivel before and you can still hear it if you care to tune in and watch CNN, though why any sane person would I can’t imagine.

Shorn of all the sophistry and far-left talking points, what it all boils down to is that the world–the Muslin-Zionist-Communist-Fascist-Humanist world hates Jesus the Christ because of who He is and what He represents–salvation and eventual liberty, through Him, for all mankind, something the Christ haters want to avoid at all costs because, for them, hatred of Jesus is the ultimate power trip.

They want to control the ultimate human tower of Babel they hope to create if only they can unseat Christ from His throne. It won’t happen, but they keep trying anyway. It’s all they have left.

In the meantime, Happy Easter. The stone has been rolled away from the tomb and Jesus has risen–and they’ve even tried to lie about that. What a bunch of losers!

“Dixie-cide”

The term “Dixie-cide” came to mind, for some unknown reason, early this morning while I was still in bed. It was too early to get up for the day, and, being a night owl (when I do much of my research and writing) I am not noted as an early riser.

Wanting to assure myself that this term was not original with me, I checked it out on the internet and found that this term had been used in an excellent article by Dissident Mama back in 2017 that was published by the Abbeville Institute. I don’t recall seeing the article at the time, but with my faulty memory, I may have and just don’t remember.

I’ve read some of Dissident Mama’s  articles on various topics over the years and have usually found myself pretty much in agreement with the sentiments expressed in them. We are, as some would say, pretty much on the same page. So as I went back and read the Dixie-cide  article I had to agree with the sentiments expressed therein.

Dissident Mama started the article off with: “Modern progressives are just as evil in their bloodlust against the South as were William Tecumseh Sherman and Philip Sheridan. Todays leftists may not yet be waging the shock-and-awe total warfare that the Union generals inflicted upon Southern civilians (whites and blacks alike) and their dwellings, businesses, churches, infrastructure, and food supply, but their aim is still the same: to have the Southern tradition and her people ‘annihilated and destroyed’.” I can’t disagree with that verdict. It should be obvious to anyone who is even remotely paying attention and who doesn’t have mush for brains. The only difference between Sherman, Sheridan, and today’s leftists is that, so far, today’s leftists do not have federal warrant to commit their acts of atrocity–yet! I’m sure those socialists in government who parade themselves as Democrats would dearly love to find some way to authorize the blatant misdeeds of the left so they could legally turn them loose on the South. Even worse than them are those in back of them, behind the curtain, as it were who are the ones really promoting the bloodlust against the South and her people. These are the unelected rulers we never hear about but who are, in reality, the ones pushing their Deep State agenda against us in the South. And as far as those in other areas, who look at what is being done to us in the South and do nothing to defend us or our heritage, just wait. When the Deep State and its leftist toadies in congress and the media get through with us, then your “time in the barrel” will be coming. The South is not the only target of leftist vitriol–it’s just the first target.

I guess you could define “Dixie-cide” as “The willful hatred of and willingness to destroy any and all remembrance of Southern history, heritage, culture, and people in the South.” Sound extreme? It isn’t! After all, if Sherman wanted Southerners “annihilated and destroyed” what makes you think more modern leftists want anything less? They learned from Sherman. Question is, who did Sherman learn from? Possibly from Lincoln’s Marxists?

Dissident Mama noted that “Sherman said that his motive was the ‘extermination, not of soldiers alone…but of the people’ of the South. Sherman undoubtedly had in mind, in pure leftist fashion, the recolonization of much of the South by fine, upstanding Northern abolitionists and other apostates. What better way to do away with the mostly Christian culture of the Old South than by re-peopling the South with Northern unbelievers and agnostics (Sherman was an agnostic) after a requisite number of Christian believers had been “exterminated?”

Sherman didn’t quite get everything he wanted but his spiritual descendants in Antifa and other such organizations are busily at work in our day trying to fulfil his greatest expectations. The wanton destruction these people are visiting on the South by their destruction of our monuments and the desecration of our cemeteries and the tearing down of our flags is but the first stage of Sherman’s fondest dream of Southern annihilation. After the flags and monuments are gone, what (or who) comes next?

If they can’t “annihilate” us all then at least they can make sure that they so destroy our history and heritage that our children and grandchildren will know nothing about what their ancestors did or why they did it. They are using our schools even now to fulfil that purpose. If you doubt that, ask your grandchildren about what is being taught to them in school about their history, culture and heritage. You may not like some of the answers you get back.

The South has been under attack, both psychological and physical, since before the War of Northern Aggression commenced and that attack has not abated. If anything in recent years it has increased. One of the main problems in all this is that so many of our people have been so bemused by the drivel presented by the mainstream media as “entertainment” that they have lost the ability to discern what is being done to them and to their children. That’s not by accident.

To the extent that has been done, Dixie-cide has been successful. Many will say, even in our churches, that our heritage and history don’t matter anymore. I respectfully disagree. I feel that if our heritage had not been mostly Christian it would not be under such assault. This is far more than a political issue. It is a spiritual issue and only when our people wake up and begin again to realize that will we be able to resist.

Today someone sent me a link to a video, a you tube video I think. The title was The Attack on the Confederacy–Wolf Age and it was narrated by Stephen McNallen. It was not terribly long but Mr. McNallen did a good job with it. Readers might find it instructive.

Don’t Know What’s Going On At The Border? Ask Cloward And Piven.

Lots of folks who don’t have access to the alternative media, or even particularly want it, are questioning what is going on at our Southern border. They are at least mildly curious as to why these caravans from Central America all of a sudden seem to be wanting to get into the United States in droves. There has always been some problem with illegal immigration across our Southern border, but nothing like what is going on now. If this continues it will swamp US resources trying to deal with it. I hate to sound pessimistic folks, but that is the whole idea. That’s the name of the game.

There is a strategy being employed in this scenario and it is not just a spontaneous situation, an isolated occurrence, it has been planned this way. Some have laid the blame at the door of the United Nations, and though I don’t know that for sure, it does sound like something they would be guilty of.

This strategy being employed along our Southern border is called The Cloward-Piven Strategy. Never heard of it, you say. I have written about it before, awhile back. You must have missed those articles. According to https://oathkeepers.org for November 18, 2018: “First proposed in 1966 and named after Columbia University sociologists Richard Andrew Cloward and his wife Frances Fox Piven (both longtime members of the Democratic Socialists of America, where Piven  today is an honorary chair), the ‘Cloward-Piven Strategy seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.” Early promoters of this plan to take down this country cited Saul Alinsky as one of their inspirations.

Does it surprise you that people charting the demise of this country have had prestigious positions at Columbia University? Given the anti-American bent of most colleges and universities in our day and for decades before that, it shouldn’t.

I doubt that if this country falls it will be from outside invasion. Rather it will be because our public (and some private) “institutions of learning” have been programming their students to participate willingly in our downfall, thinking that they are somehow promoting the greater good by tearing the country down and replacing it with some sort of vile socialist institution. In other words, for them, evil has become good and slavery has become freedom. And how many people continue to fork over big bucks so their kids can become propagandized in the glories of socialism–Venezuela style! Too many! So when will they ever get it? When they have lost everything–including their children!

An article on https://www.americanthinker.com for October 29, 2018 dealt with much of this, and it even had a picture of Cloward and Piven  standing behind Bill Clinton as he signed the Motor Voter Law into existence back in 1993.

This article, written by Brian Joondeph, also observed: “in addition to expanding the welfare rolls internally, another way to overwhelm the system is to import more welfare recipients with the goal of overwhelming the system. This occurs via immigration, both legal and illegal. Think of what the current migrant caravan means in terms of Cloward-Piven.  Thousands of poor, unskilled migrants entering the U.S. They need healthcare, education, housing, food, clothing and other basic needs which all cost money. Who pays for this? The migrants arrive with the clothes on their backs,  not with job offers from Fortune 500 companies and guaranteed self-sufficiency.” As for who pays for it all–why the lucky taxpayer gets to foot the bill for it all, and if he dares to complain why then he’s a “racist” or even worse, a “white nationalist” no matter what color he is.

I’ve noticed just recently that Trump has threatened to take many of the illegals entering the country and bus them to some of these sanctuary cities that liberals and socialists are so enamored of and drop them off in neighborhoods peopled by mostly white liberals and socialists.  The white socialists and liberals don’t like that idea at all. It repulses them. It’s what they’ve been howling for and they love it “Just as long as it’s not in my backyard!” I won’t even label them hypocrites. They are cultural Marxists, which means they have a different standard for themselves than they do for us “great unwashed.” We are all supposed to accept and love the hordes of illegals coming in–just as long as they don’t have to get their hands dirty with them! I won’t tell you what I think of such liberals and socialists–it wouldn’t be  printable.

But anyway,  that’s what is going on at our Southern border–an agenda put forth by members of the Democratic Socialists of America to help take your country down. Maybe you should read some of what I have been reading about this on the internet and drop a letter to the editor of your local newspaper about it, or even one to your elected representatives in Sodom on the Potomac.  At least it will let them know that you realize what game is afoot.

Globalism in Public School Textbooks is Nothing New

Ever since Donald Trump has been in office there has been an ongoing dialogue as to which is better for the country, globalism or nationalism. Actually, of the two, I’d rather have neither, as I think localism is a much better choice but since most folks don’t think that way anymore, I suppose nationalism is the lesser of the two evils.

However, even nationalism gets a bad rap in public school textbooks, and has for quite awhile now.  I pulled an article out of my files the other night from the old Borger News-Herald in Borger, Texas for August 23, 1973. The title of the article was Textbook Curtails National Liberty.

It dealt with the State Board of Education in California adopting a new series of social studies textbooks that was guaranteed to become controversial. It seems that the 1970s was a landmark decade for public schools across the country to start adopting material with a more pointed One World Government viewpoint. The title of the series was Land of the Free. 

A reporter for the Anaheim Bulletin spent three days going over these textbooks. He found that the books, designed for kindergarten through fourth grade “promoted the idea that they (the children) are ‘global citizens,’  and that the United States is an arm of a ‘world community’.”

The authors of these textbooks have noted that nationalism is a ‘cult” which seems to hinder the development of a “world consciousness.” It then becomes the task of the textbook to “bring international political arrangements fully into line and produce a world political mechanism that will promote the best interests of all peoples everywhere.”

The textbook producers seem to have a major  problem with the idea of a country considering itself to be a “sovereign nation.” They feel that the “doctrine of sovereignty of the nation has been the curse of the modern world.” Undoubtedly they thought the old Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was the ideal working model for the rest of  the world–surely not much national sovereignty in that arrangement.

You can see from this that the people that write your kid’s public school textbooks most definitely have a globalist agenda and if you are like me you find precious little to agree with in any of that.

No national sovereignty? So who runs the country? The United Nations? That would be a perfect start for One World Government–that’s what the United Nations is all about–telling every member country what it can and cannot do. Can you think of a more compelling reason to get the United States out of the United Nations? I can’t!

And with textbooks like those noted in this article, I can’t think of a more compelling reason to get your kids out of the public school system. The last thing they need to be reading is “social studies” texts promoting One World Government, at the fourth grade level or any level.

“…Your House Is Left Unto You Desolate”

Once I had someone ask me if Jesus had ever “officially” abandoned Israel. This was someone who sincerely believed in the Dispensationalist viewpoint regarding that country and he honestly believed that no Christian should ever speak a word against national Israel, no matter what. I don’t note this to impugn that person, but merely to point out that this is the view of many sincere Christians. Without realizing it, what they are doing is subtly substituting national Israel for Jesus Christ.

To answser him I noted Matthew 23:37-38 which says: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house if left unto you desolate.” To me that sounded pretty final. And it was their choice. What Jesus offered they were not interested in, at least at the spiritual leadership levels of the country. Jesus’ words to them were true–and ye would not! Their rejection of Him was their choice, not His.

And even with Israel’s adamant refusal, God was merciful and gave them one more generation to repent. However, they were not about to take advantage of that and so in 70 AD He visited judgment on Jerusalem and the end of their spiritual world came.

In Matthew chapter 27, after Pilate had sought to release Jesus to the crowd, he washed his hands symbolically in front of them and said “I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.” To which the Jews answered “His blood be on us and our children.” They did not realize what they were asking for, but they got it, and national Israel has been complaining about it for almost 2,000 years now! Just goes to show you that you need to be careful about what you pray for because you might just get it!

The theological leadership in Israel in Jesus’ day were not nice people anymore than most politicians in any given age are. There is always a small handful that want to do the right thing and a majority that will do whatever it takes to make sure they retain their power and prestige, even to the killing off of their opposition. Welcome to the real world. Israel was no better than the Gentile nations around them. They had had more spiritual light but had refused to use it properly, had turned in on themselves and looked down their noses at everyone else.

When Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom He was letting everyone know that His salvation was open to all people, not just Jews, and the Jewish religious leadership really hated that because if people listened to Jesus and followed Him, their positions of influence and leadership would be gone and they were not about to let that happen. The solution–kill off the opposition! And so they set about to do just that. The Gospels are clear on this.

Mark 10:33 notes Jesus’ own words: “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles.” They had to do that because, under Roman law, they could not take His life. Had they been able to they would have. Mark 11:18 notes: “And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him:…” Mark 12:12 shows the same thing–“And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew he has spoken the parable against them:…” If you want to know what parable read Mark 12:1-11. I have long thought that the key verse here was verse 7, where the husbandmen seek to kill the son so they can keep the vinyard for themselves. It is the perfect encapsulation of the Pharisees’ plan for Israel–keep it for themselves and to blazes with everyone else!

Then, Jesus made a statement that should make all Dispensationalists really stop and think. He says, in Mark 13:30 that “this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.” So many think that so much of what Jesus said is supposed to happen in our day–at least that’s what Hal Lindsey and others that make big bucks selling “end times” books have told them. Sorry, but I can’t buy it, and not just because I can’t afford to buy the books. I think the books are a waste of your money. Although many will disagree with me. Jesus was telling the people of His day that all the future things regarding Him, except His Second Coming at the end of history, were going to happen in the lifetimes of His Apostles.

So many Christians spend so much time anticipating “the rapture” that they feel must surely occur any day now, that they have lost the ability to deal with the world they live, move, and have their being in. All they want to do is get out so they won’t have to deal with this mess. I don’t think the Lord is going to let them off the hook that easily. I think He wants us to deal with the world and its problems as Christians rather than to be consumed by a retreatist, escapist mentality.

If Christians cannot learn to deal with some of the world’s problems in a constructive way, then you can bet no one else can either. So think about it.

Jesus and the Religious Establishment

Usually most nights after our evening meal, my wife, son, and I have a little devotional time. We read something from the Old Testament, usually the Psalms, and then something from the New Testament. This is something we have been doing for years now.

I started noticing, a few years ago, when reading the Gospels and the Book of Acts, that the people Jesus had the most problems with were those in the Jewish religious establishment, the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Scribes. As Jesus went about preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom these were the people that constantly questioned His authority, demanded signs from Him, and even went so far as to say that He performed His miracles through Beelzebub, the chief of the devils.

Theoretically, these should have been the people most glad to see Jesus come. In reality, He was the last person they wanted to see because His coming upset their theological apple cart and pointed to the fact that the Jewish religious system in first century Israel had become totally apostate. It’s leaders taught for religious dogma the traditions of men rather than God’s Word and some of those traditions may well have come from the Talmud which came back with them from the captivity in Babylon.

In Matthew, chapter 15, the scribes and Pharisees try to take Jesus to task because His disciples “transgress the tradition of the elders” by not washing their hands before they eat. To which Jesus replies to them “Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?” And he pointed out what they did to avoid taking care of their aged parents and He said to them: “Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.” He called them hypocrites and said of them: “But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” He labeled them “blind leaders of the blind.”

Not only did they teach their man-made traditions in place of God’s Word, but they sought to make what Jesus said of no effect. Matthew 22:15 notes: “Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.” Here they sought to thrust upon Him a loaded question–one that would condemn Him no matter how he answered it–is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not? When He answered it in a way that did not allow Him to fall into their trap, “they left him and went their way.” But He knew they would be back. They were the first century version of those denizens of the Washington Swamp that have been trying to take down Donald Trump. No matter how their questions get answered, if it is not to their satisfaction they will always retreat and then reform their ranks and try a different approach–until they get what they want. Until then they never quit! I suppose I’d better say this here, lest some who don’t like what I write here will make a “leap of faith” and attribute my comments in a way I never intended. I am not–I repeat not equating Donald Trump with Jesus! Donald Trump is a sinner like the rest of us, who needs to trust in Christ for his salvation as we all do. I am only trying here to make the point that, be it in the first century, or the 21st century, politicians both religious and secular, operate in the same fashion.

And in Mark, chapter 3, after Jesus had healed a man on the sabbath, verse 6 notes: And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.” Then, in Mark 3:22 Mark notes: “And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.” To which Jesus replied, “How can Satan cast out Satan?” But then He also said: “But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.” This was because they said “He hath an unclean spirit.”

This was the sort of thing Jesus constantly had to put up with from the so-called “religious” leaders in Israel. What they really wanted was a messiah that would come, toss out the Romans, and set up Israel as the country that would rule the world. Jesus was not about to give them that because that was not God’s plan for them. They were to serve and minister to the world rather than ruling it–and that was the last thing they wanted–or even want today.

Southern Cultural Genocide–is some of it our fault?

April is Confederate history and heritage month. How many Southerners are even aware of that. How many even care? Admittedly, the news media will give this no coverage, but if they did, how many would care or even take note?

Just last evening (April 1st) I read an article on The Abbeville Blog written by Lee Congleton. It was not a long article, but the author said what he needed to say very succinctly in a few words. He noted the stealthy attack and removal of our war memorials and asked the question “…but that’s the intent of the left isn’t it? Do it quietly but totally.” He labeled those who do this The American Taliban and he observed how effortlessly they pull down and remove our sacred monuments, the remembrances of our culture, heritage and history, just about unopposed by the descendants of those that these monuments are dedicated to.

To be fair, he did note that much of this activity is caused by the “order of leftist City Councils made up of modern day carpetbagger Socialists,…” And naturally you know the “news” media is going to support the efforts of those carpetbagger Socialists against the decent and ordinary folks in any given locality. You might be tempted to wonder why decent folks end up electing socialists to their city and town councils. Could it possibly be because they have not bothered to do any homework about where on the political spectrum these would be office holders are coming from?

And Mr. Congleton also noted: “But that doesn’t change the fact that there doesn’t seem to be any will of the citizenry to stand up against these Commissars of ‘PC Thought’ in support of our heritage and history. They have been brainwashed by our educational institutions to hate themselves if they are white, whipped up by the media, and pop culture that what the South fought for was wrong. We as parents and grandparents failed to teach them any different. We’ve failed generations.” Boy did he hit the nail on the head there. Most of our folks just haven’t wanted to be bothered. Some have, and some have opposed this politically correct leftist garbage–but not nearly enough! If you have fought against this leftist drivel then you know I am not talking about you here. I’m talking about all those folks that had the same chance you had to opposed this crap–and just couldn’t be bothered–too much effort and trouble!

And these will be the ones that bitch the loudest when their culture is gone–the ones that wouldn’t lift a finger to defend it. You will howl “why didn’t someone tell us?” You won’t remember that some of us have been trying to tell you for the last five decades and you didn’t want to hear it. So you wouldn’t listen and somehow now that’s our fault!

Your cop-out will be “our history teachers never told us any of this.” Well, those of us who did learn had the same “history” teachers that you did and by God’s grace we learned what goes on, so why can’t you–or more properly why won’t you? Sadly, many have let the pop culture around them turn them into political wimps.

Once your Confederate and Southern heritage has disappeared it will take generations for it to re-emerge–if ever it does. If you continue to let the far left remove your history and heritage you are ceding to them the right to control your future and the future of your children. Are you willing to hand that to them? I’m not! If you are, or don’t care, then shame on you–your birthright is for sale for a mess of bean soup–or the next reality show!

This next Saturday, April 6th, there will be A Confederate Memorial Day Service in front of the Carvings at Stone Mountain, Georgia at the Confederate Memorial State Park, sponsored by the Georgia Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  It starts off with Southern music at noon and then a memorial service beginning at 1 pm. The flyer I have says: “We need to show the public and our politicians that we will not let the memory of these Confederate heroes be forgotten. Be sure to bring family and friends and enjoy a picnic lunch after the service.” Lots of folks from great distances away can’t make this, but it is within driving distance for lots of folks that can make the trip, so for those who can, y’all come!

Let the minions of the far left and those that finance their agenda know that you have not forgotten and won’t forget your heritage and history. Every time those people see a new Confederate flag somewhere it makes their job that much harder so let’s work to make it as hard for them as humanly possible.
